The clear waters of the river Urugne feed La Canourge's network of canals, like a little Venice. In the words of Solanet, a local Abbott, it is a "gracious, fluted and smart" village.

Located on a low confluence step, above the rivers Merderic and Urugne, the village grew from Saint Martin's monastery and a fort, now the Château Saint Etienne. The clock tower in the town dates back to the village's early days.
