Gaulish funeral architecture is extremely rare; the Mausoleum at Lanuéjols is one of only two such monuments to have survived in France, along with Saint-Rémy-de-Provence.
It is in excellent condition (only the top is missing), making it of exceptional architectural interest.
The mausoleum is in a low-lying position, where erosion by surface water almost totally buried it. This actually saved it, enabling it to escape the fate reserved to so many ruins, pillaged for their stone by nearby villagers.
