Halfway between Marvejols and Aumont-Aubrac stands the Château de la Baume, built around the thick granite walls of the former stronghold of the Seigneurs de Peyre who ruled the Gévaudan.
The chateau was transformed in the early 17th century and extensively decorated in the 18th century by artists from Paris and Montpellier, resulting in contrasting rustic and exuberant styles. Visitors will discover a grand staircase, chests, fireplaces, coats of armour, Felletin tapestries as well as Louis XIII and Louis XIV galleries...
Here in the heart of the Aubrac is a reminder of the painted panels and gilt decor of Versailles.
