This this region has kept an impressive "little heritage". It is not unusual to see a ferradou (smithy for cattle), fences with granite posts, bread ovens, and other architectural reminders of days gone by.

Between Lot and Truyère
Circuit : 75 km

Javols
Formerly known as Gabalum, the Gallo-Roman capital of the Gévaudan. Archeological museum.

Plateau du Palais du Roi
One of the wildest regions in the Lozère, with a high point at an altitude of 1428 m, between the Lot valley and the Lac de Charpal.

Mende
The town of Mende, with its age-worn houses, stone-paved streets and slate roofs, lies clustered around a superb cathedral, and is an ideal starting point for discovering the richness of the Lozère.

Chanac
This town in the Lot valley is dominated by a fine keep. The 13th century church has a nave with a three-span cradle vault.

Le Villard
A fortress during the Middle Ages and Wars of Religion, Le Villard stands high over the Lot valley.
