Robert Louis Stevenson and Bertrand du Guesclin have contributed to the renown of this land of stone and water, at the source of the Allier. The austere villages of the Margeride, the peaceful forest of Mercoire, the calm way of life in Langogne... the Val d'Allier is a pleasant place to visit.

Val d'Allier
Circuit : 94 km

Langogne
Population 3700. Langogne has a magnificent market hall built in 1742 and still used to this day. The 9th century church is also worth a look.

Naussac
The largest lake in the Lozère (7 km long) is a popular tourist spot with many facilities.

Condres
This tastefully-restored country house is now an art centre, where you can admire fine objects and learn how to make them.

Grandrieu
Altitude 1162 m. The 12th century church has a number of frescoes and an ancient granite font decorated with a Maltese cross.

= Site to see!

Châteauneuf de Randon
Worth a visit for the old stone-paved square, almost out of proportion with the size of the village. A statue commemorates du Guesclin, who died here in 1380.

Sommet du Goulet
Stretching to an altitude of 1497 metres, this is where the Lot finds its source.
