  Running southwards towards the Mediterranean, the Cévennes valleys are home to intense agricultural activity, with chestnuts being the prime crop. The slate houses blend in perfectly with the fragmented landscape.

Florac
Where the Cévennes meet the Tarn Gorges, at the foot of Mont Lozère, Florac is home to the headquarters of the Cévennes National Park.

Saint Julien d'Arpaon
Castle ruins that hark back to another age look down on this village at the centre of the Mimente valley.

Col de Jalcreste
The Col de Jalcreste, also known as the cock's crest pass, is on the watershed line.

Col de Pendédis
This pass, at an altitude of 670 m, has one of the prettiest views in the Cévennes, in particular towards the eastern end of Mont-Lozère.

Saint Germain de Calberte
