  The sublime, tortuous gorges are a striking contrast to the simplicity of the landscape of the plains. Thistles are one of the few plants to grow on the Causse, whereas the gorges are green and fertile. While the vultures soar above the ridges, the spectacle continues below ground, in the Aven Armand and Dargilan caves  
 
 
Gorges and Causses
Circuit : 112 km

Florac
Where the Cévennes meet the Tarn Gorges, at the foot of the Mont Lozère, Florac is home to the headquarters of the Cévennes National Park.

Ispagnac
Ispagnac is a lively little village at the entrance to the Tarn gorges. There is 12th century church, and the home of Quézac spring water is nearby.

Castelbouc
A magnificent ruined castle overlooks the troglodyte village clinging to the cliffs of the Causse.

Sainte Enimie
"One of the most beautiful villages in France, with its narrow streets paved with pebbles from the Tarn, and remarkably restored houses.

Cirque de St Chély
On the left bank of the Tarn, the little village has retained its traditional architecture.

Château de la Caze
Built in the 15th century, this Château at the heart of the Tarn gorges is now a luxury hotel.

The Narrows
A boat or canoe trip through the narrowest section of the Tarn gorges is highly spectacular.


Cirque des Baumes
The Cirque des Baumes hides numerous caves.

Point Sublime
Three-star site. The finest view overlooking the Tarn gorges 400 metres below.

The Vulture Lookout
In the museum, discover how vultures returned to their former territory. Observe the vultures directly or over a video link.

Meyrueis
Surrounded by streams, at the far south of the Lozère. Discover the temple, old streets, St Pierre's church (17th century).

Dargilan cave
The "pink cave" at Dargilan, a three-star site, is one of the largest in the Causses and the Cévennes.

Aven Armand cave
A funicular railway takes you down a 200 m tunnel to a vast underground cavern, large enough to fit Paris's Notre Dame cathedral in with room to spare.

Causse farm at Hyelzas
Discover country life from the 17th century to the 1950s in this typical farm.
